Presentation of Aikido
Aikido, like all of the other Japonese martial arts, is a modern form of Aiki-Jutsu, which itself originates from Ken-Jutsu (sword combat)
The principles of Aikido were discovered and put in practice by the grand Japonese master Morehei UESHIBA when he integrated the purely physical martial art techniques, moral “human” values by looking to dissuade an attacker and neutralize their aggressive and harmful intent instead of beating down the opponent. The literal translation of Aikido allows for a more precise definition, although far from perfect; of this discipline:

AI: joining, unifying, harmonizing
KI: spirit, life energy
DO: way, path
